What Goes Into Good Website Design?

Posted on: 29 July 2020

Good website design does not happen by accident. Whether you want to set up an engaging blog page to put your views across or you would like to set up an e-commerce site that allows you to make some money over the internet, the design of your website will be crucial. This is why so many aspects of website design are best handled by professionals. After all, it is not simply about picking a nice colour scheme and font for your site – there are many technical aspects to take into consideration, too. What are the most important ones to keep at the forefront of your mind when setting up a new website?

Simplicity Works

What is the most visited and most used website in the world? There are some cases you could make for certain market niches or different parts of the world, but the answer to this question is undeniably Google most of the time. The Google search engine page is used billions of times a day. Why? Well, it is effective but it is also such a simple design. Consider how little there is to the website design of Google's search engine – almost the whole page is white with just the search bar and the company's logo. Although not all website designs will be this minimal in their look, they should all have a similar level of intuitive simplicity that makes them child's play to interface with and fast to load.

Browser Optimisation

No website design should only work well on one browser. If you want people to engage with your site, then you will need it to work well whether they are visiting using Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Of course, you can optimise your site for certain browsers, but anyone who is just visiting and checking your site out should be able to see the whole of each page without having to alter their zoom settings or pinching in. Remember that this should be the case whether a visitor is visiting your site with a big monitor connected to a desktop computer or using a portable smart device with a much smaller screen.

Design Consistency

Bear in mind that websites that have an inconsistent design are not just disorientating, but they feel like different sites. If you have a page layout that works, then use it for all other landing pages and sub-pages with similar HTML coding. If not, visitors will click on internal links and think they have been transported elsewhere off the site. This can make them wary, as though they have encountered some malware. In turn, this will destroy trust in your site. So, the simple message is that you should find a website design that works for you and stick to it.

Cyber Security and Other Contemporary Tech Issues

Whether you run a business based on IT or just use a laptop for your personal use, it's important to understand cyber security and how it relates to you. Hi, my name is Mary. A few years ago, my computer was hacked, and the hacker used a ransom virus that required me to give them cash to get access to my information. I didn't want to play with criminals so I worked with a cyber security expert to remove the virus, without paying a ransom. This blog is about that type of security as well as other contemporary tech issues. I hope you like these posts.
